Black is Black....All Valdani Threads are hand dyed and color fast. These 12 weights are a little heavier weight than DMC #12. So they are wonderful for wool applique, hand quilting and some people use them for punchneedle...i prefer the 3-stranded floss for punchneedle. Valdani perle cottons have a lot more thread on them than DMC. The DMC's have a plastic hollow core in them the Valdani's do not they are all thread! The Valdani's also do not have as much shine to them as DMC. These are just my opinions.....Lisa
